About the reserve

This reserve is a flood meadow on the south bank of the River Leam, which is great for spotting butterflies and dragonflies.

What's it like to visit?

Bounded by the meandering River Leam, Willes Road, housing and a reservoir this popular Local Nature Reserve feels surprisingly secluded.  The damp meadow has many wild flowers with yellowcresses, marsh bedstraw and silverweed all plentiful. The eastern marsh has reed sweet-grass and reed canary-grass intermingled with yellow iris, greater pond-sedge and wild angelica.

What might you spot here?

Visit in spring to see the yellow iris flowering and the first orange-tip and holly blue butterflies and spot a heron fishing. By summer time the dragonflies and damselflies will appear, look out for the banded demoiselle and white-legged damselfly.
